Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind. It is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees. It is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep spring of life. Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exits in a man of 60, more than a boy of 20.nobody grows merely by the number of years; we grow old by deserting our ideas. Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust1 bows the heart and turns the spirit back to dust. Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station; so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from infinite, so long as you are young. When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with the snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you've grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there's hope you may die young at 80.。

Good afternoon, ladies and gentle man.Today I would like to begin with a story. There was once a physical therapist whotraveled all the way from Americato Africa to do a census about mountaingorillas. There gorillas are a main attraction to tourists from all over theworld; this put them severely under threat of poaching and being put into thezoo. She went out of curiosity, but she saw strengthened her determination todevote her whole life to fighting for those beautiful creatures. She witnesseda scene, a scene taking us to a place we never imaged we've ever been, where inthe very depth of the African rainforest, surrounded by trees, flowers andbutterflies, the mother gorillas cuddled their babies. Yes, that's a memorablescene in one of my favorable movies, called Gorillas in the Mist, based on atrue story of Mrs.Dian Fossey, who spent most of her lifetime in Rwanda toprotect the eco-environment there until the very end of her life. To me, themovie not only presents an unforgettable scene but also acts as a timelessreminder that we should not develop the tourist industry at the cost of oureco-environment. Today, we live in a world of prosperity but still threatenedby so many new problems. On the one hand, tourism, as one of the most promisingindustries in the 21st century, provides people with the great opportunityto see everything there is to see and to go any place there is to go. It hasbecome a lifestyle for people, and has turned out to be the driving force inGDP growth. It has the magic to turn a backward town into a wonderland ofprosperity. But on the other hand, many problems can occur-natural scenes aren'tnatural anymore. Deforestation to heat lodges is devastating Nepal. Oilsspills from tourist boats are polluting Antarctica.Tribal people are forsaking their native music and dress to listen to U2 onWalkman and wear Nike and Reeboks. All these appalling facts have brought us tothe realization that we can no longer stand by and do nothing, because the verythought of it has been eroding our resources. Encouragingly, the explosivegrowth of global travel has put tourism again in the spotlight, which is whythe United Nations has made 2002 the year of ecotourism, for the first time tobring to the world's attention the benefits of tourism, but also its capacityto destroy our eco-environment. Now every year, many local eco- organizations are receiving donations-big notes, small notes or evencoins-from housewives, plumbers, ambulance drivers, salesman, teachers, children and invalids. Some of them can not afford to send the money but theydo. These are the ones who drive the cabs, who nurse in hospitals, who aresuffering form ecological damage in their neighborhood. Why? Because they care. Because theystill want their Mother Nature back. Because they know it still belongs tothem. This kind of feeling that I have, ladies and gentlemen, is when it feels like it, smells like it, and looks like it,it's all coming from a scene to remember, a scene to recall and to cherish. The other night, as I saw the moon linger over the land and before it was sent intothe invisible, my mind was filled with songs. I found myself humming softly, not to the music, but to something else, someplace else, a place remembered, aplace untouched, a field of grass where no one seem to have been except thedeer. And all those unforgettable scenes strengthened the feeling that it'stime for us to do something, for our own and our coming generations. Onceagain, I have come to think of Mrs.Dian Foeesy because it's what her spirit, passion, courage and strong sense of our eco-environment that we are taking ournext stop into the world. And no matter who we are, what we do and where we go,in our mind, there's always a scene to remember, a scene worth our effect toprotect it and fight for it. Thank you very much. Thanks, contestant #18. The topic for yourimpromptu speech is: Which is more important for you: knowledge from books orpersonal experience?Thank you. I remember, on my very first dayof my beloved university, one of my professors said to me, “From now on, you'llbe and who you can be. The key is to allow yourself to continue the journey inthe ocean of the books.” And I do learn a lot from books: I know the geometryof Euclid, logic of Aristotle, fable of Aesop Known to children around the world. Well, nooffense to all those great authors of the books, but during my three years atmy university, I do realize that personal experience through practice meansmore to me. As we are in this global information age where both economic growthand individual opportunity are based on 。
e, but they have not come to stay, they have come to pass.Greatness is not this wonderful, esoteric, elusive god-like feature that only the special among us will ever taste. It is something that truly exists in all of us. It's very important for you to believe that you are the one! Most people….they raise a family, they earn a living, and then they die. They stop growing, they stop working on themselves, they stop stretching, they stop pushing themselves. Then a lot of people like to complain but they don't wanna do anything about their situation. And most people don't work on their dreams. Why? One is because of fear – the fear of failure. “What if things don't work out?. And the fear of success. "What if they DO and I can't handle it?. These are not risk takers. You've spent so much time with other people. You've spent SO MUCH TIME trying to get people to like you, you know other people more than you know yourself! You've studied them, you know about them, you want to hang out like them, you want to be JUST LIKE THEM! And you know what? You've invested SO MUCH TIME IN THEM, you don't even know who you are!I challenge YOU to spend time by yourself. It's necessary that you get the LOSERS out of your life if you want to live your dream. But people who are willing to work on their dreams, life has a special sort of meaning. When you become the “right person,” what you do is you start separating yourself from other people. You begin to have a certain uniqueness. As long as you follow other people, as long as you're being a copy-cat, you will NEVER EVER BE the best copy-cat in the world. But you will be the best you could be. I am challenging you to define your value. That everyone won't see it. That everyone won't join you. That everyone won't have the vision. It's NECESSARY to know that. That you are an uncommon breed! It's necessary that you align yourself with people that attract people into your business – who are hungry. People that are unstoppable and are unreasonable. People who are refusing to leave life just as it is and who want more! The people that are living your dreams are finding winners to attach themselves to. The people that are living your dreams are the people that know that if it's gonna happen, it's up to them. If you wanna be more successful, if you wanna have and do stuff you've never done before… No. 2 I want to ask you to invest in YOU.Someone's opinion of you does NOT have to become your reality. That you don't have to go through life being a victim. And even though you face disappointments, you have to know within yourself, that I can do this. Even if no one sees it for me, I must see it for myself. This is what I believe, and I'm willing to die for it. Period. No matter how bad it is, or how bad it gets….I'm going to make it. I wanna represent an idea. I wanna represent possibilities. Some of you right now, you wanna go to the next level. I wanna be a council. I wanna be an engineer. I wanna be a doctor.Listen to me: You can't get to that level. You can't get to that level economically of who you want to be until you start to invest in your mind. You don't like reading books. I am challenging you now to go to conferences.I dare you to invest time.I dare you to be alone.I dare you to spend an HOUR getting to know yourself. When you become who you are, when you beome the person that you were created to be, designed to be, who you desired to be. When you become an individual, what you do is you take yourself, and you start separating yourself from others. I challenge you to get to a place where people don't like you don't even bother you anymore. Why? Because you're not concerned with trying to make them happy. Because you're trying to blow up. You're trying to get to the next level. Because you're investing in your mind.If you're still talking about your 。
6.英语演讲比赛“Growing pains will finally pay off”
When I was a little girl, I always hoped to grow up soon. Now I begin to miss my life in the past. Because in the past, I didn't need to face a lot of trouble. I didn't need to do my homework until 11 o'clock or worry about the competitions. I could even sleep until 11 o'clock at the weekends and played from morning to night. However, whether I want to or not, when I grow up, I have to face lots of pains. For example, I must cook for myself, wash my own clothes and clean my own room when my parents are not at home. I have to deal with more and more homework and exams day after day. Sometimes, I can't help thinking about what I can get from so much
homework. What can I learn from pains?Of course, I can writecompositions easily, I can clean the room by myself, and I can pass those exams successfully. But is this all ?No!There is no doubt that growing means more trouble ahead of me. But why can't I look at growing in a positive way? Trouble is my friend, if I can learn from it .In a way, trouble is an opportunity. In the process of overcoming the trouble, I will grow up soon, just like Harry Potter. My father told me we wouldn't have seen the “iphone” if Steve Jobs hadn't overcome incredible difficulties .I completely agree with my father. As I grow, more trouble will come to my life. But I won't be afraid of it any more. I know that it can teach me more about life and I'll try my best to defeat it. I believe no matter what trouble it is,it will make me change for better.
